Student Critique, Ganexa University in Panama City, Panama - Offical Emabassy Photo
This student is a very talented painter, but seemed to be craving artistic criticism. I gave her an ear-full, but it seemed she just needed to really have her work on the walls of a collector to build her confidence. In the tropics, I was presented with questions like, "How do I stop mold from growing on my paintings?" I said, "uhhhh.....huuuuuuh... I'll get back to you on that." However, there were other questions I could answer that pertained to picture making and composition rather than dealing with fungus and termites. The U.S. State Department had set up a lecture for each of the four guest artists. Michelle Charoensawadsiri and I spoke at Ganexa U., while Durwood Dommesse and Fred Nichols spoke on the Eastern Shore of Panama at an arts center. We all felt like welcomed friends, not arms length Yanks.
