Robert Williams, Educator, Activist, Volunteer, oil on panel by Paul Zdepski
Mr. Williams was kind enough to sit for a small group of artists in the Winchester area’s Shenandoah Art Council building. On a cold winter’s night, he graced us with an interesting subject with stories to keep us warm. He was a Peace Corp volunteer in the 60s, traveling to Russia, Europe and Africa. He takes deserved pride in marching with Dr. Martin Luther King. Robert can now be found in a semi-retired state, his beret a constant feature. The children of Winchester’s school district are graced with him as a substitute teacher when needed. This painting represents a two hour sitting. My daughter Zhana was able to finish three paintings in the time it took me to do this one… I must be slipping.
