Gut Wind and Wire, The Instruments of the Baltimore Consort, oil on Strathmore Watercolor paper laid on panel by Paul Zdepski
While I was an art director for Sono Luminus and Dorian Recordings, I was privileged to meet many talented musicians. The Baltimore Consort was at the studio for a separate recording, and while they were on dinner break in the evening, we asked them to arrange their late Renaissance instruments into a pleasing still life for us to photograph. We shot the scene, but I got the urge to paint them. I had the rough image ready for them to see by the time they returned from dinner and a few glasses of wine. This became the cover for a “greatest hits” cd called Gut Wind and Wire, release by Dorian in 2006. I had a blast painting it, and have it as my screen saver on one of my Macs.
